they suggested it, i’m re thinking it, but what do you think i should do?

I respect RT but it is a well know fact that the televisions at the factory are set to "Torch" mode. This means nearly 100% brightness and contrast so the TV will stand out if it use used for a display in a store.

I do approve of ISF Calibration – but you can do a basic calibration yourself.

Get a Pixar movie. (Up, Cars, Wall-E, etc) and go to the video setup menu. It will have test patterns and instructions of what to adjust. This will give you a rough calibration for the DVD player. Then you mimic the settings and picture for the Sat/Cable/Antenna input (yes – each input may have different settings.)

If you want to master your gear – get Digital Video Essentials from Amazon for about $18. It has more test patterns and tutorials so you can calibrate the display yourself.

You can always get the professionals to come in later if you want.

What TV(samsung,sony,lg)?

Posted by admin in lg led tv

I got like 700 – 800$ to spend so what should i get sony, samsung, or lg? plasma or lcd or i think there is this new thing called lcd led?

Samsung is your highest rated brand, and in my professional opinion, is the best presently. Sony is a close second though, so you can’t go wrong there either. LG is decent, but is kind of in a mid-high range that shares it’s abilities with Sharp, Toshiba, and Panasonic.

I would go for a Samsung LN40B530 model. It’s a 40" Samsung with a great picture and 1080p capabilities. The only thing it lacks is a 120hz processor which you probably won’t find in that price range anyway unless you are getting a smaller set.

That television is a regular price of 899.99 but you can find it on sale for 799.99 sometimes, and maybe cheaper if you can do a cardholder deal or rebate or something. Best Buy and Sears are both running it at 799.99 right now actually. Check it out sometime in store if possible.

As for the LED sets, with your price range, they’re not something to consider. Samsung is the LED maker right now and they don’t manufacture models smaller than 40" which run around 2,000 dollars. For the time being, unless you have a lot of money to blow, then LED really isn’t an option.

Anyway, hope this helped, I’m open to emails about television questions any time.

The DirecTV picture quality is horrible and not sharp at all. I tried watching a Blue-Ray movie and the picture quality is a little better but there’s a shimmery/hazy tint to the screen. If a person on the screen is standing still it’s almost like their forehead (or whatever) is sparkeling. Does anyone know what this could be from? Am I going to have to return/exchange this tv…again?
I have until the beginning of February to return/exchange it but would rather not go through that hassel again. I’m not sure why the TV would be doing this. Is it even possible to get as many bad TVs in a row as I have? …although after seeing the Best Buy delivery truck ramp over the speed bumps in my neighborhood I shouldn’t be surprised.

Could be a problem with the unit. Samsung is known for unreliable tvs, especially there DLP line. Major light engine problems.

See if you can get it under warranty. Call Samsung tech support and have a translating book beside you.

samsung led tv (UN558000). Does anyone know of any good reputable companies that offer a plan cheaper than Sears ridiculous $580 extended warranty. It’s a great TV and I think it’s wise to get an insurance plan for it.

I have the same model TV and it is absolutely gorgeous. The picture quality and features are just unbelievable.

Smart move in thinking about buying extended coverage, considering the TV cost over $3K. I purchased mines at Best Buy, with an extended warranty of $400 for 4 years. Not bad if you consider the total investment.

Good luck and enjoy your new Samsung LED TV.
