DO LED DLP's provide a better picture than LCD's? I'm on the fence about that; to be perfectly honest I'm not so sure the *average* consumer would be able to tell the difference if the two TV's weren't standing side-by-side.

That being said, I think a LED-based DLP is a good buy. The bulb-based lamps in the first-gen DLP's tend to run very hot under normal operating conditions and, in this condition, the bulb tends to be quite fragile and can be easily shattered. LED's, on the other hand, tend to run a lot cooler and are not quite as prone to shattering. From my experience LED-based lamps should last you a lot longer between lamp replacements as well.

One last thing: bigger is not always better. It all depends on how large your room will be and how far away from the TV you usually sit. I've seen people go to a theater and sit in the back rows to avoid having to crane their necks while looking at the giant screen; but these same people will go home to a tiny living room and sit only 5 feet from a gigantic 60" big-screen TV. I've always wondered why they would do something at home that they go out of their way to avoid doing at a theater.
References :
electronics technician for over 20 years and former TV repairman

If you're sitting only 6' away, I would recommend a TV in the range of maybe 37" at most. a 50" TV from that close of a range will just be too much for your eyes, and end up being a waste of a TV essentially. With that money, you could get a 37" and a decent surround sound system.
