Lg TV has a unique relationship with Mark Levinson. Your TV has Levinson speakers. I spoke with him the other day, he was coming in from Moscow, recording a childrens classical concert. Levinson speakers are extraordinary. I have attached a link to underscore the pedigree of speakers you already have in your LG tv. An often overlooked feature. If a desktop is near by, computer speakers would be the perfect option, without breaking the bank. I am told Audioengine speakers are fantastic, boston acoustics and for me, Bose Wave Radio connected to the TV is perfect. Please, consider purchasing any of the names listed as refurbished equipment. This will save a lot of money and allow you to be better in line with what you pay and expect. All of it is over priced, new.

Best.
References :
http://www.avrev.com/home-theater-news/floorstanding-loudspeakers-news/mark-levi

First, a 5.1 system is 5 speaker channels (front right/left, front center, rear right/left surrounds) and a subwoofer (the 0.1 channel). A 7.1 system is the 5.1 plus a couple of extra surrounds. And, a 7.2 adds a second subwoofer.

I actually think that anything more than 5.1 at this time is overkill. There is very limited 7.1 audio programming out there, and only on the Blu Ray disks that recorded in 7.1. Otherwise, a 7.1 receiver matrixes the 5.1 signal and basically sends a monophonic component of the two rear 5.1 surround channels to the two extra rear speakers (big whoop). Plus, 7.1 receivers start at around $700 and you have to buy two extra speakers.

So, how much are you looking to spend on a receiver and speakers?

For a coupla-few hundred dollars, you'll be looking at a 5.1 Home Theater In A Box (HTiB) system that includes the receiver and speakers all in one box, and by one manufacturer. These are cheap systems that are an improvement over just a TV and its built-in speakers. But, you get what you pay for.

For several hundred dollars, you're looking at an inexpensive 5.1 channel receiver and a set of average speakers (like Sony or even LG). This will be an improvement over the HTiB system. But, you may still not be completely satisfied with it.

For about $800 to $1000, now you're starting to get into the range where you can pick up a pretty decent 5.1 system. Yamaha has a couple of mid-range 5.1 receivers for about $250 and $350, respectively (the rx v365 and the rx v465). The main difference is that the 365 has two HDMI inputs and 100 watts per channel, while the 465 has 4 HDMI inputs and 105 watts per channel. You could then couple this with a set of Klipsch Quintet surround speakers, plus a 10-inch powered KSW-10 subwoofer for about $600 new, with shipping included, off of eBay). And, you would be very pleased with that system (it's what I have and it rocks).

And, the systems get incrementally more expensive from there. But, now you're looking at pretty high-end speakers and receivers that have all the bells and whistles that you probably wouldn't get much value out of, anyway.
References :
You can't go wrong with looking at an Onkyo HT-S6200 for $600, It is a 7.1 receiver and a set of 7.1 speaker system. Or a Pioneer, Pioneer Elite, Onkyo receiver and a set of say JBL, Infinity, Energy, Mirage, Definitive Technology and Klipsch speakers. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on receivers and speakers. Home theater in a box are not very flexible and when one item goes out, you have to replace the whole thing beside not able to upgrade down the road. Hope this will help you out.
