The DirecTV picture quality is horrible and not sharp at all. I tried watching a Blue-Ray movie and the picture quality is a little better but there’s a shimmery/hazy tint to the screen. If a person on the screen is standing still it’s almost like their forehead (or whatever) is sparkeling. Does anyone know what this could be from? Am I going to have to return/exchange this tv…again?
I have until the beginning of February to return/exchange it but would rather not go through that hassel again. I’m not sure why the TV would be doing this. Is it even possible to get as many bad TVs in a row as I have? …although after seeing the Best Buy delivery truck ramp over the speed bumps in my neighborhood I shouldn’t be surprised.

Could be a problem with the unit. Samsung is known for unreliable tvs, especially there DLP line. Major light engine problems.

See if you can get it under warranty. Call Samsung tech support and have a translating book beside you.

LG is a more reputable brand, but they tend to be a bit pricey. Sceptre is one of those fly-by-night brands that outsources their LCD production to God knows where, so the reliability isn’t the same: you might end up with a good model, or you might end up with a lemon. The LG also has a better customer support network should anything go wrong.

Though if I am reading this right, the Sceptre has more inputs. So if you want more inputs and a larger screen and are willing to take a risk with reliability, go for it.

Okay the Alienware Desktop I would get now or I can wait for the Sony TV to be released this summer. I know people will say that 1. Alienware is overpriced. 2. 3D is a novelty. BUT 1. 3D Movies look really good and for regular programing you can switch it to a regular 2D form. 2. Alienware is overpriced a bit since I did do the calculations vs. Building it on my own but I don’t really have the time I’m taking Dual Classes at school so I’m really working a lot since I’m doing my last year of HS and my Freshman year of college so I graduate a year early from college. Also with my regular life, my job, and what I do around the house for my mom its really hard to find any time. I’m looking out for some time which I would spend either gaming or having the TV with some friends. I have a plasma screen now and a little bit of burn in so I could use a new TV and I can’t game other then a system since I own a laptop and iMac which sucks for gaming. So can anyone tell me what would be best in my situation.

i would go with the alienware. yea, they might be pricey, but they rock.

samsung led tv (UN558000). Does anyone know of any good reputable companies that offer a plan cheaper than Sears ridiculous $580 extended warranty. It’s a great TV and I think it’s wise to get an insurance plan for it.

I have the same model TV and it is absolutely gorgeous. The picture quality and features are just unbelievable.

Smart move in thinking about buying extended coverage, considering the TV cost over $3K. I purchased mines at Best Buy, with an extended warranty of $400 for 4 years. Not bad if you consider the total investment.

Good luck and enjoy your new Samsung LED TV.

I was wondering if I should worry about receiver’s capability of handling output to LED TV such as LG 55LE8500 240Hz.

I’m putting togather a list for a good/quality home theater system and would appreciate your input!

Here is what I have so far (on paper):

TV: 55" LG 55LE8500 240Hz
Receiver: Denon AVR1910 7.1-Channel Multi-Zone Home Theater Receiver (or better in the same price category or a bit higher)
Blu-ray player: LG BD590 250GB HD Network Blu-Ray Disc Player
Speakers: Bose Acoustimass 10 speaker system
HDMI cables: (Not sure yet)
and Logitech Harmony 900 universal remote control

Thanks in advance for any advise!

Yes,
Your receiver will have affect on your image quality on your LED tv.
But Denons are usually pretty good. You will have to look up more info on forums such as: AVscience, Tom’s Hardware etc. [NOT ALL HDMI PASS-THRU's ARE CREATED EQUAL!] I’d also look at offerings from Samsung or Sharp [personal preference to those brands instead of LG... but LG definitely is great bang for buck!]

As for your package…
everything looks great! — except for the Bose part.
I know that many may think that Bose is awesome and best… but that’s not tru.
in case you did not know, the AM10 speakers are poor quality, and sound quality is OK at best. They are also unsuitable for music. It would be a waste to hook it up to the Denon AVR.
I’d check out offerings from Klipsch.
They too have compact systems: Klipsch HD500 – better sound, better build quality for le$$.
Also checkout the Klipsch Quintet… the speakers are a little bigger… but so is the sound.

Please take heed! – Bose is a rip-off. There are so many other brands and options. I’ve tested their systems and as they sound OK… there’s so much better… then they charge arm and leg for mediocrity and bad quality.

Another sytem: If you are looking for toptop quality: Look at B&W MT series:
http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/display.aspx?infid=821&sc=ht
These will cost about the same as the AM10… give or take a little… and you will get 10x the sound quality… and be able to play music – with excellent, warm, accurate sound quality.

Please take a look at:
http://intellexual.net/bose.html
this site will give you the facts of the accoustimass/lifestyle series – which is garbage compared to the above options from Klipsch and B&W.

Good LUck!
